Happy New Year 2014!

It’s a bit late, but to all readers of The Lime Springs Page, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Pat and I wish you all to enjoy a safe, healthy and prosperous 2014!

2013 Accomplishments

People often look back at the outgoing year to see what has been accomplished. Often, that results in self-promises to accomplish more in the new year.

We enjoyed a river cruise
near Fairbanks, Alaska.

The big accomplishment in our family was celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, which will occur in 2014. The trip to Alaska allowed me to check off the last of the 50 states as having been visited! The cruise fulfilled one of Pat’s long-time wishes.

This next accomplishment is business-as-usual for many, but not for me. We traded cars! A “new” car is not a once-every-forty-years event in this Williams family. It’s more like a once-every-seven-years event. Pat is is very good wife and deserves a nice car!

She continued to paint with her friends, usually twice each week. And I continued to fly with students, although not as much as previous years—partially due to my unavailability during our trip to Alaska.

I also spent a lot of time on the Internet. Recently I created a new website about car insurance. If you’re in the market for car insurance (new, cheaper, for teenager, etc.) it might help you. Here it is: http://stateonlinecarinsurance.com.

I also try to keep the calendar on limesprings.com up-to-date, with the help of the paper version of the Herald. That’s where I get 99.9% of my information for the calendar.

What Will New Year 2014 Bring?

That’s the big question, isn’t it!

More of aspects of the Affordable Care Act took effect with the drop of the New Year 2014 ball. There is anything but peace in several areas of the world. The Olympic Games will soon begin, with anxiety over the safety of the participants. Mid-term elections for Senators and Representatives will be held. Our southern border, less than three miles from where I am sitting right now, is anything but secure.

The Lime Springs School will undergo a huge change from the past. The City itself faces huge expenditures to upgrade necessary systems.

And we’re all hoping to be at least as well off financially as we were in the past, in spite of what seems to be constant increases in the price of fuel, groceries, and taxes.

There’s plenty of uncertainty! We individually can’t ensure those issues will be resolved. But we can take an active part in our communities and try to get our community and our nation headed in the direction we believe is appropriate.

A Bright Spot for Lime Springs

Lime Spring Beef Groundbreaking

One bright spot for New Year 2014 is Lime Springs Beef!

We know that work began last Fall on the physical plant. Surely that will continue. Will people be able to buy steaks from Lime Springs Beef in their favorite grocery store in 2014? Jesse, I, and many, many, others surely hope so. The plans have been carefully made, but it takes a lot of work by many people and organizations to make this happen.

As a Lime Springer, I sincerely hope that Lime Springs Beef is a resounding success. It can do much for our little town. I’d love to see every vacant building filled with some kind of business or office. A successful Lime Springs Beef would, perhaps, be the fuse that brings such a dream to reality.
