Johnson Strings Going Pro

The Johnson Strings New Video

Two years ago, in 2012, The Johnson Strings performed at the ecumenical church service held during Sweet Corn Days in Lime Springs. I made a short video of it and posted it on YouTube. It had about 90 views, which isn’t too bad for my videos. (Thousands of views would be really good!)

Earlier this year, I received an email from the group. They offered me their brand new, professionally produced video to put on YouTube for all the world to see instead of my original video. I agreed. The new video is now featured on YouTube for everyone’s viewing pleasure.

And right here on The Lime Springs Page for your viewing pleasure!

But before you watch it, a few words of explanation might help your understanding of the setting. The setting for this music is anything but bright and cheerful. In fact, it is very somber and dull. The Johnson Stings felt that appropriate, as the music is from the motion picture Shindler’s List, a movie about the Holocaust. That easily justifies choice of scenes.

Almost Local

The Johnson Strings are from New Hartord, Iowa. That’s just NW of Cedar Falls, so we can consider them almost local. The scenes in the video were near New Hartford.

Hopefully, we’ll have more opportunities to see and hear them in the future. You can see their performance schedule on The Johnson Strings website.

Going Pro

This new video marks a transition from their “local family band” status to that of professional musicians. The family members are now two years older chronologically and have advanced at least that much musically.

I’m not sure what their goals are, but I’d not be at all surprised to see them playing the RV park circuit in the Rio Grand Valley of extreme South Texas soon. Several family bands do that.

My current musical favorite down there is CrossStrung. They’re from Utah and are a bit older than the usual mom, dad, and a few really-cute and somewhat talented kids. But they are superb musicians! I attempted to get them booked for Sweet Corn Days this year but it didn’t work out.

Interestingly, you could hear CrossStrung this very night (June 18,) at the Worth County Fair in Northwood.

That’s it for family bands, at least in this article.
