Roger Buchanan Passed Away

By kaw / 8 years ago

Although Roger Buchanan didn’t grow up in Lime Springs, he often visited friends and relatives here, from his home in Colorado. Clearly, Lime Springs was a special place for him!

I got to know him fairly recently, possibly as a result of the Lime Springs High School reunions. I always enjoyed visiting with him. He always had a smile and seemed to be enjoying life!

Roger was the son of Alice Williams Buchanan Bancroft and the grandson of W. R. Williams. That made him the nephew of Joshua Williams, the “creator” of the famous reunions of Lime Springs High School.

You can see his smile and read his obituary in the Times here: http://crescotimes.com

Roger Buchanan Loved Trucking

According to his obituary, Roger loved trucking! And he still drove trucks until he was 86! I like driving, too, so that’s very comforting to me. If I’m to match him, I still have nearly a decade of driving “opportunities” ahead of me!

I vaguely remember a trucking story. (Here’s the way I remember it; it might be far from accurate.) I believe it was Roger and Price Jones who were taking a semi-truck load of hay someplace east. They were going up a hill and the trailer came unhooked from the tractor. Now that’s a problem!

I suspect Roger just laughed it off and solved the problem.

If anyone knows the real story, please let me know!

Rest in Peace, Roger Buchanan! My sympathy to his family.
