Perfect Day

My Perfect Day

Yesterday was foggy, low overcast, or drizzling all day long. No flying, for sure! Clearly not a perfect day for a fair-weather pilot.

Today broke clear as a bell and remained that way all day long. Perfect weather for flying. And so I did!

First, I flew over an hour with my friend David in his very nice orange and white Cessna 170. Then a ‘burger with him at the nearby McDonalds. Then back to the airport for more flying.

The afternoon mission: fly with two student who are originally from China. The deal is that I’m to teach them all I can about airplanes and flying; they’re to give me an opportunity to practice speaking Chinese.

Bonus at Vinton

This bald eagle wasn't seen on this, our perfect day.

Today, they received a bonus. Actually, two bonuses. We landed at Vinton so they could swap seats for the return flight. While there, we saw two bald eagles soaring over the Cedar River just north of the airport. The sun was bright so their white tails and heads were clearly visible.

Then we got to see six skydivers jump out of a Cessna Caravan and float to the ground and land right in front of us. Actually, there were six parachutes and ten skydivers, as four of the ‘chutes had two jumpers. All landed on their feet, mostly!

Then home to a bowl of potato soup Pat had made during the day. The good news: she made a big batch so we can have it a few more times. I love her soup!

The day was so nice and still warm, so I went on a short scooter ride on my Burgman. Now she (the Burgman!) knows I still love her and that the lack of use over the last two or three weeks was due to low temperatures, not lack of interest.

…and Football!

It’s Saturday and that means football! We watched the last ten minutes or so of several good games. First, West Virginia beat Oklahoma State, then #1 Mississippi State beat Kentucky. Then Ole Miss (Mississippi) got beat by LSU for their first loss of the season.

Then our first overtime game of the season: Ohio State vs. Penn State. Ohio State won it in the second overtime period!

Fortunately, neither Pat nor I had a horse in any of these races so we could just sit back and enjoy them without becoming too emotionally involved.

Thus endeth my perfect day!
