Pat and I have spent the last three winters in Mission, Texas. While there, we have numerous opportunities to hear musical performances by amateur and professional musicians. As you might expect, the quality of performances ranges from “not so much” to so-so to superb. After three years, we have our favorites!

We’ve heard CrossStrung each of the three years. After the first two years, we rated them as the best musicians, plus great entertainers, that we had seen down there. I sent a note to a few friends in Lime Springs whom I thought could “make it happen” if interested and recommended CrossStrung be booked for Sweet Corn Days.

It didn’t work out for last year, but this year I was thrilled to learn that they would be leading the Sunday morning ecumenical worship service in Brown Park! Thanks to Deloris Tesmer and the committee, they were booked to come to LS!

CrossStrung is a “family band” from Salt Lake City, Utah. The traveling troupe consists of the mother (Sheri), three daughters (Emma, Leah, and Sarah), Sarah’s husband (Dan), and their two daughters, Lena, 2, and Frea, 2 months, and Kali, 10, Lena’s babysitter and cousin.

CrossStrung’s Iowa Visit

Lime Springs is the group’s only Iowa stop this year! They came from Cody, WY, to perform for us. The next gig after LS: Glendive, MT! Who says Lime Springs isn’t special!

Because of the effort the group made to visit our town, I wanted to make sure their visit was pleasant. I believe that was accomplished!

Extra Performance

When I arrived in Lime Springs, I learned that Curt Tienter and Deloris had arranged for CrossStrung to perform on Main St. on Saturday afternoon! They set up in the shade of “Price’s Store” (Lime Springs Medical Clinic) and played for an hour!

The second picture shows the attentive crowd for that session.

Sunday Morning’s Performance

The next two pictures show the crowd at Brown Park for the Sunday morning worship. There was a good-sized crowd as you can see. And an appreciative crowd! The musicians each gave a short testimonial regarding their feelings toward a particular song and its relation to their life. It was all very appropriate, I thought.

Many people told Deloris or me how much they enjoyed the group.

Getting to Know the Musicians

We were pleased that the family parked next to us at Jim and Sheryll’s RV Park and Resort! Little Lena has some of the characteristics of the Energizer Bunny! It’s great to see healthy kids full of energy, trying to squeeze every bit of fun and exploration out of every day! And Frea —she’s just a content little doll!

Their skills aren’t limited to music! Dan is a mechanical engineer. The girls are artistic. And Sheri was knitting or crocheting up a storm!

Future Travels

This January, they’ll be in Florida, then move up the coast to Texas for February. That means we’ll get to see them again! On their website, you can see their schedule if you’d like to catch a performance!

I appreciate the effort CrossStrung made to spend a weekend in Lime Springs and I believe the townspeople appreciated them, too.

Thank You Sheri, Dan, Sarah, Leah, and Emma!
