So You Had A Bad Day

By Hannah / 9 years ago

When I was younger, I read a book called “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”.  I liked this book because it turned a bad day into something humorous.  I’ve never had a day like Alexander’s, where everything goes wrong, and it feels like nothing can go right.  However, I have had my share of the plain old bad days.

There are some days when I seem to get up on the wrong side of the bed.  Not literally, since my bed is pushed up against a wall, and I can only get up on one side.  Metaphorically, I get up on the wrong side of the bed, as in things seem to go wrong from when I first get up.  I can’t find my earbuds, there’s no milk in the fridge, my cats are being insane, I accidentally slept in, I don’t have the comfy sweatshirt I was planning to wear, the list can go on and on.  Any number of those things can put me in a bad mood.

I heard the saying “Without rain, there would be no rainbows” in a movie once.  If we didn’t have the bad days, would we be able to enjoy the good days as much?  I’m sure that we would still like having good days, but if you have a bad day, and then a good day right after, maybe you would appreciate that good day a little more than you had before.

I came up with the theory a while ago that the universe likes to be balanced.  Not just in chemistry or nature, but also in the good and bad days.  If you have a bad day, you’ll get a good day.  You have a good day, you’re bound to have a bad day eventually.  This thought makes me appreciate my good days, because I know that they won’t last forever.

In truth, bad days aren’t like some of the movies and books say.  I don’t think that a bad day means that everything goes wrong that possibly can, and you’re in a bad mood throughout the whole day.  I believe that a bad day can become a good day, if you put in the effort to change it.  If you can, try to see the good things about your day, and attempt to think glass-half-full thoughts.  I find that going to school can improve my mood.  Seeing my friends and doing something productive can usually break me out of a bad mood.

We can’t always have good days.  Because the universe likes to be balanced, we’re bound to have a bad day or two here and there.  However, just because you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, doesn’t mean you have to stay that way.  Try to see the bright side of things, and you could find that your bad day, might not be so bad after all.  See you next week!
