100 Words I Should Know

I’ve written several articles which are published on website EzineArticles. Now they have published a list titled “100 Words Every Expert Author Should Know.”

Boy, am I in trouble! I hope the don’t retract my articles!

Write to be Understood

Following the list are comments from many readers. The gist of them seems to be, “Yes, it would be good to know all those 100 words, but you should write so your audience can understand what you’re trying to say.”

You won’t find me using all those words in an article! The truth is, there are many words in there which a have never seen, much less know, and even beyond that, understand. So I don’t use ’em.

Here on The Lime Springs Page I don’t really try to write in any particular way; I just write. And hope that my readers understand what I’m thinking, no matter how I say it!

Writing Like You Talk

Pete, the advertising guy E.F. Johnson Co. used from Chicago, had a very special style. He wrote exactly like he talked. When we got a message or letter from Pete, there was no doubt from whom it came. And that was true even if it was a letter typed by his secretary from a dictation. She formatted it perfectly so it read just like he was sitting across the table talking to us.

Gary Thomas has the same gift. Whether it is a Christmas letter or an email, you don’t have to read very far to know that it was written by Gary. (Some day I hope to have something from Gary to share with you on this site.)

I don’t really know if my writing comes across like that or not. And I really don’t care.

What I do care about is that people read it! And I like it even more if they comment on it or give some stars to it.
