Where’d This Week Go?

Where’d This Week Go?

When I look at the articles, I see that I’ve posted only one article this week. And that was a commercial! Perhaps I really was busy—or was I? Let’s see, where’d this week go?

Just like in the non-retired world, Monday is wash day. One would think that it could easily be any day of the week but it isn’t. Monday means doing the laundry. Period. We can easily walk to the park’s laundry, so I carry the basket of dirty clothes to the laundry and help Pat get the machines going. Then I come home and, usually, sit down at my computer.

We’re pretty much a one-activity-per-day family, so that’s enough for Monday, especially for Pat.

Sometimes, though, we need a few groceries. That gives a great excuse to go to Walmart and have lunch at the nearby Whataburger. Tuesday afternoon, Pat goes to a craft session. Usually, she knits there. Sometimes they have a special project for the day.

Tuesday evening was the annual spaghetti dinner at the clubhouse. There was a good crowd and the meat sauce was very good! A good time was had by all, for $6/person!

Friends Flew In

Where'd the week go? Wednesday afternoon was spent with Jay and Mary, shown her with their RV-8A airplane.

Up until five years ago, we had “airplane friends” who lived in Iowa City. Then they bought a motel in Port Aransas, about 25 miles south of Rockport, the town where we wintered for seven years. jay and Mary now have a neat little red airplane which travels pretty fast! They can come see us in an hour or less! Last year they made two or three trips down. Wednesday they came down for the first time this year. Before we picked them up at the McAllen airport at 1:45, we finished our Christmas shopping. What a good feeling that was!

If you’re watching my comments on facebook, you’ve probably seen the huge pork tenderloins we had for lunch at Riverside Club, right on the Rio Grande.

Thursday we boxed up the gifts and sent them on their way. Timing is everything, so we had lunch at my favorite taco establishment: Taco Bell. (I know, it’s terrible to eat there when we’re right next to Mexico. But my favorite tacos, by far, come from Taco Bell!)

Friday is Music!

Today, Friday, is sort of a “wind down” day. We have to be ready for the weekend, you know! Pat goes to her dulcimer get-together on Friday mornings. Today, I installed the wheel covers on the trailer and vacuumed the carpet, plus some other cleaning.

At 1:00, we were at a neighboring park for their weekly polka jam session. Today, the first session of the season, there were ten squeeze boxes, a trumpet, a drum set, and—most importantly—a tuba, excellently played! We left that at “half-time.”

Here’s a video  of the same jam session taken back in January. Notice there are more musicians in this group; they’re not all here yet.

At 5:00, we went up to our parks’ county-western jam session, preceded by a supper of hot dogs! Friday is our day of music.

Relaxed Weekends

Tomorrow I might, or might not, wash the truck. That’s easy to put off! We try to have nothing scheduled for Saturday. I do like to watch college football, so might watch a game tomorrow. Pat goes to church in Mission in the afternoon.

I go to church Sunday, here at the park. We try to make Sunday as close to a do-nothing day as we can, ending with going out for supper even if it’s to a Subway.

Most or my time between the above activities is spent at the computer, trying to keep several websites afloat including updating the calendar on limesprings.com, selling RV Awning Travel Locks, and keeping track of friends and granddaughters on facebook.

That’s my answer to the question, “Where’d this week go?” And there, my friends —that’s pretty much why there weren’t many new articles on The Lime Springs Page this week.

I do appreciate those of you who keep coming back for more; I really do! I just wish there were more who found The Lime Springs Page required reading!
