The Early Bird

By Hannah / 9 years ago

When you get up in the morning, what is your morning routine?  How long do you spend getting ready?  For me, I usually spend ten minutes eating breakfast, twenty minutes getting dressed and brushing my teeth, and then I relax for an hour and a half.  The reason I can do this, even on a school day, is because I wake up each morning at five o’clock.  I start my day before the sun rises, even before some of my teachers have to get up.  This part of my day, the earliest part, is sometimes my favorite and least favorite part of the day.

I love getting up early for multiple reasons.  I have never enjoyed the feeling of being rushed, and I’ve found that if I wake up a half an hour or even an hour before school, I end up rushing around, frantically trying to collect everything I need for school.  And most of the time, when I wake up late, that’s the end result.  However, when I wake up two hours before I need to get on the bus, I find that I can take my time getting ready, and I usually have time left over to relax.

Another reason that I get up early is because I like to be different from the average.  Most teenagers I know like to sleep in, and I don’t blame them.  I don’t know how many times I’ve woken up, and internally struggled with myself for twenty minutes, trying to force myself to either get up or go back to sleep.  Unfortunately, sometimes the side that yearns sleep wins.  Nonetheless, I like knowing that I’m experiencing a part of life that other teenagers might not.  While they might enjoy staying up late, I get to to watch the sun rise.

However, getting up early isn’t always easy.  There are many days where I wake up, but every part of me just wants to go back to sleep.  I know that if I get up, I’ll be glad that I did, but it’s hard to remember that when I’m surrounded by warm blankets and soft pillows.  In addition, there’s the problem of breakfast.  As I eat at five, by the time we eat lunch at school, about 11: 30, I haven’t eaten for six hours!

All in all, I enjoy waking up early in the morning.  I get to have an hour or two of my day to myself, I’m experiencing a different part of life, and I get to watch the sunrise every morning.  It isn’t always easy to convince myself to wake up, but when I do, I’m always glad that I chose to be the early bird. See you next week!
