St. David’s Day, March 1, is set aside by the Welsh to recognize their patron saint, St. David.
Along with other things Welsh, Lime Springs has never celebrated St. David’s Day. The town has a rich heritage of Welsh blood. It could have, possibly, capitalized on this heritage much as Pella has promoted its Dutch heritage.
Each year I try to celebrate it by flying my flag of Wales. Unfortunately, this year I couldn’t find a suitable flag pole so passers-by will not be saying, “What’s that flag???”
I spent over half an hour looking for a suitable YouTube video to present today. I’ve decided on this one. It’s not the largest chorus nor the best rendition, but it does have good audio. Most importantly, it brings what appear to be the two most-sung songs: the national anthem “Land of My Fathers” and “Myfanwy” —plus a song by Charlotte Church.
To all my Welsh and non-Welsh friends, Happy St. David’s Day!
