Had you ever heard of the North Platte Canteen?
I hadn’t either. A friend from Canada sent a link to this clip. It’s a moving story!
And speaking of WWII, did you know that there was a POW camp in Algona? It held German prisoners, mostly. It was only open for a short time.
The strangest thing about it is that, even though it was less than 200 miles from Lime Springs, I don’t remember ever hearing a single word about it.
I learned of it a few years ago from my friend and LS reunions videographer, Dave Yeoman. Dave grew up in Algona.
