Rakes or Brooms Growing on Trees?

By kaw / 11 years ago

Yesterday we went on another little outing, this time to Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets, a huge outlet mall, in Weslaco.

Objective: Find some Spring clothes for Pat!

The mall is about 35 miles “downstream” from our park in Mission. Premium has outlet malls in many states. They claimed 141 stores in this one. (That means we have about 135 more to explore, if we wish.)

It was a very nice mall! It was super-clean, which is noticeable down here. The trees seem to grow plastic bags here in the Mission area!

Rakes Growing on Trees!

But that’s not so far fetched, as at the mall the trees seemed to be growing rakes, or maybe brooms. They were so tall I couldn’t tell for sure.

It has been 13 years since we spent a Winter here in Mission. I had forgotten how things were here. My recollection was that it was solid town from South Padre Island to Mission. That’s not really the case, as we did see some fields between towns as we drove to the mall. Some were vegetable fields, with just a few workers tending the crops yesterday.

One thing is for sure: every town has one or more RV parks! The entire Rio Grande Valley is clearly a haven for those escaping the rigorous weather up north. Iowa and Minnesota license plates are very common here, probably more common than any other plates, Texas excepted of course.

In our park, I believe Iowans and Minnesotans make up about half the park.

The picture below shows the winter home of this Iowan and Pat. The lot is rented from another person from Iowa, from Cedar Rapids, in fact.
