Lime Springs Ties

This organ was maintained for nearly 30 years by David Kemmer, LSHS 57! He was a member of the committee which planned and designed this restored/new organ!

Here’s what he has to say about the 2015 version:

“The fully rebuilt CUMC pipe organ is the most awesome

sounding instrument outside of the Twin Cities-!!!”

David maintains over two dozen pianos for Mayo Clinic, including the grand piano in the atrium of the Gonda Building. That’s the one many of us have listened to and seen on YouTube videos, perhaps. (I’ve done both.)

Unique Talent and Skill

Every town has produced people who’ve left the area to practice their special talent or skill. Some are indeed exceptional, the astronauts being good examples. Steve Jobs, with his special skill of visioning what people would like in their computers in the future, was instrumental in creating the largest company in the world.

Lime Springs has produced “special people” too, although not as nationally recognized as the examples. Our hometown has produced lots of teachers who went elsewhere to guide young minds. Wouldn’t it be interesting to know how many lives have been influenced by a teacher from Lime Springs!

I think of Pete Garrison, with his military, engineering, and management expertise. And John Carroll, entertaining all who would watch with his extraordinary ability to write with both hands simultaneously. And then there was “Red Bill” Jones (each of the William Joneses of Lime Springs had a nickname so people could know who was who) who could impersonate anyone he had ever heard speak. And do it well!

Sort of an unusual way to introduce David Kemmer, isn’t it! But David certainly has unique talent and skills in music, and more specifically regarding pianos and organs. He’s made a career working with them!

And has played a key role in the refurbishment of the organ which will be in concert Sunday in Rochester!

He’ll be there, and so will some other friends of his from Lime Springs.

Congratulations on the successful completion of this huge task, David!

Enjoy the concert, everyone!
