Good and Bad Lime Springs News

There’ve been lots of things, large and small, happening in Lime Springs or about Lime Springers over the last many weeks. I’ll use this post to pass along some Lime Springs news—just in case you’ve not heard it.

Deaths

Ealier this year LaVerne Greenfield’s daughter, Laurie, passed away. She was just a toddler when she and her dad moved to Lime Springs, he to teach at LSHS. He taught the very first driver’s education class at Lime Springs, I recall.

Laurie lived “out West” someplace; the Phoenix area, I believe. Carole (Rembold) and Laverne have lived in Sumner for decades

A few weeks ago, Gene Jones passeda away. Gene was our close-by neighbor out on the farm. He, like my dad, loved horses. His obiturary is here: http://limespringsherald.wordpress.com/2014/04/01/eugene-jones-85-lime-springs/

…and Life!

You’re probably aware that construction on the Lime Springs Beef facility has been going on for a good part of the Winter. But you might not be aware that a near-disaster occured at the site on St. Patrick’s Day.

Brad Lodge, construction project leader, was stricken by cardiac arrest.

Now that’s a serious event, to say the least. I’ll just say that one week later, he was back at work! Read the excellent article Marcie wrote to get the rest of the story.

You can read it here: Dead for 30 minutes!

This was indeed good Lime Springs news, so good that it made at least one local television news program. As well it should have!

Lime Springs Beef in the News

The Spokesman, the paper or magazine put out by the Iowa Farm Bureau, carried an article on Lime Springs Beef. (It’s presented in an unusual manner. Click on it to enlarge it, then click on some of the buttons to get it the way you want it.)

Oldest Lady in Lime Springs?

If she’s not the oldest lady in town, she is close to it. I’m speaking of my nearest relative who still lives in Lime Springs, Adell Jones, 93. She is a first cousing of my dad and “Red Bill,” plus others who didn’t live in Lime Springs. Another cousin was Henry Hughes, who had the red and white stripped barn on the way to Cresco.

The bad news: Adell fell recently and is currently in a care center in Cresco. I wish her a speedy recovery and return to her home in Lime Springs.

Oldest men in town? I believe that would be Kenneth Jones, followed closely by Kenny Mensink. Or is it the other way around?? Both are over 90.
