Is Busy Too Busy?

Busy

Yes, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. How come? Well, I’ve been busy.

So busy that I get tired. And besides that, I’m slow. Which reminds me of what Dad used to say: “How come the only time you can hurry is when you’re driving something?” Some things never change, I guess.

Flying

I’ve resumed flying in earnest. I have one student for a Private Pilot License named Dmitry Tchaikovsky. He came from Belarus (White Russia) when he was 12. He’s young enough to be my grandson, but that’s OK. He’s nearly ready to solo now. And he’s never made a really bad landing. Wish I could say that!

I also have two students for what might be called an “Introduction to Aviation” short course sponsored by their employer and my former employer, Rockwell Collins. These two are about half finished, so with good weather this week I’ll finish them.

Flying is something I really love to do, but instructing three or more hours a day is very tiring. Exhausting, actually. And three hours of instruction keeps me away from home at least six hours; that’s just the way it works!

Young Eagles in Iowa City

A week ago, our EAA Chapter gave kids airplane rides at Iowa City. We had seven planes and gave 37 youngsters rides!

This is the same group which ventured to Cresco about a year-and-a-half ago for the same purpose. And with the same results: bunches of smiles!

Important Tasks Left Undone

The bad thing about being busy or tired is that important things remain undone. One example: updating this site!

I know that I have friends, and even a few relatives, who check this more-or-less regularly. I suppose they are looking to see if there is news of happenings in our old home town or news of someone they remember from our little town of Lime Springs.

They might be disappointed when they check and find no new articles. For that I’m sorry. And disappointed myself for not getting it done.

I also have not completed some tasks I took on in making a permanent home for a comprehensive database on Pleasant Hill which Burton Nagel has created and lovingly cared for for several years. This is important work for the community and needs to be finished.

And sharp readers may remember that I’ve not provided more info on the Memorial Day activities in Lime Springs.

All these, so what am I going to do?

Go to bed, that’s what.
