Iowans “Humble”

During his comments last evening, ISU President Leath stated that ISU was a great university but was not as well known as it should be, based on its stature. That, he opined, was because Iowans are humble.

(I’ll interject here an applicable quote from a famous Welshman, John L. Lewis—another Iowan, by the way—who stated, “He who tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted.”)

A bit later, Jeff Johnson, President of the ISU Alumni Association, said that he was about to change that! We are to go from the humble “heads-down” approach to the “looking forward, chest out” stance regarding ISU!

Now Jeff is a flamboyant crusader for ISU and, in my opinion, absolutely the best person for the job he holds. He would have us all wearing an ISU shirt every day and sporting ISU license plates on our cars—both of them! That alone would mean about 170,000 ISU messages on Iowa’s roadways!
