Fall Colors Are Here

Fall in Iowa is Beautiful

I love fall in Iowa!

The days are usually cooler, the nights are delightfully cool, and the colors change from predominantly greens to many different shades of brown, with yellow, orange, and all shades of red thrown in. It’s simply beautiful!

I went on a ‘cycle ride this afternoon to check out leaf color in the area. My favorite route, which I took today, is west out of Cedar Rapids to Palo, then north, past Pleasant Creek Recreation Area, to Center Point, then home t CR on I-380.

Few Pretty Leaves

Outside of Cedar Rapids, I saw very few trees with beautiful foliage. I suspect that was because the trees along the route are not the type which become beautiful. In other words, they’re not maple trees.

In town, there are a few which are becoming brilliant orange and red.

Fifty Shades of Brown

The picture above is the best I could do. It was taken near Pleasant Creek. It clearly shows the predominant colors of the countryside: ripening beans in the first field and corn in the next one.

When I go flying, I see many, many, shades of brown. Each field is a slightly different shade, due to variety of crop, time planted, moisture differences, etc.

Soon, many fields will feature a big cloud of dust in their midst. Harvest time will soon be here.
