Apparently Jesus Wasn’t Perfect

Background

This is a cute family Christmas story, whether or not you know the players.

This is a little dialogue between a grandmother and her granddaughter. The grandmother is Kathy Vaughn, the oldest daughter of my cousin, AnnaLee (Austin) Crawford.

Kathy posted it on Facebook today. I deemed it well worth repeating here.

Story

Grace, (3 in two weeks) and I put the Baby Jesus house (the creche) up today. I unpacked the pieces and she put them in the stable. I explained each piece, including cow, sheep and donkey. When I turned around, Baby Jesus was outside in the loft and the donkey was on the roof.
“Why is Baby Jesus outside? I asked.
“He’s on time out.” she answered.
“Why is the donkey on the roof?” I continued.
“He likes it up there. That’s where he belongs.”
“I don’t think donkeys can climb that high.”
“Yes,” she said, “and he isn’t a donkey, he’s a horse. Horses can climb on roofs.”
The sheep shortly joined the donkey. I left the room.
When I came back, all the people were lined up on the sofa, and only Baby Jesus and the animals were in the stable.
“Why are all the people on the sofa?” I asked.
“Cause,” she answered. “This is for animals, not people.”
“I know,” I said. “But there wasn’t any house for his mommy and daddy, so they had to stay with the animals. Baby Jesus was born there.”
“You’re silly, Nana. Only the animals and Baby Jesus can be here. It’s a barn.”
I didn’t argue.

Thanks for the day brightener, Kathy!
