Alaska, Finally!

Alaska, The Final Frontier

Pat and I have been here in the 49th state three days now. Three busy days. I can see why many who have come to Alaska forget to go home.

This must be the summer for Lime Springers to make the trip. We know that Mary Stevenson and Betty and Chuck Wilson have already been here.

River Boat Ride

1374469757059Our first tour was a morning trip on a paddle wheel riverboat. They must have known I was onboard as the very first attraction was a seaplane demonstration!  A Piper Supercub on floats took off and landed  in the river, right beside our boat.

There was a narrator on the boat with a superb voice. He was or had been a Fairbanks radio personality. My red ISU cap paid off, as during a shore period he pointed at my cap and told some other guest that “Iowa State is one of the very best engineering schools in the country!”

I thanked him for the commercial, then found out that he was a 1964 Journalism graduate.

Panning for Gold

In the afternoon, we visited Dredge #8 and the Aleyska Pipeline, both very interesting.

As you might imagine, I have lots more pictures which could be published. However, I must admit that writing articles with nicely formatted pictures is somewhat of a pain on my Galaxy Note tablet.

That and the fact that it is now 10:30PM suggests that I should quit and go to bed. That doesn’t mean that it is night yet, as the sun wll not set until about 11:45 today!
