Acres and Acres of New Homes

Houses Galore

We’re spending the weekend visiting Pat’s sister in Omaha. She lives in the far western area which you and I would call “Omaha” but which actually is in no city. Yet.

Yesterday I drove the 35 miles from her place to Fremont, NE. I was amazed at the number of huge, recently- built, housing areas in the area! Mostly houses, but there were some huge apartment complexes and possibly some condos. It’s as if farmers planted seeds and houses sprang up—farm after farm of them!

There must be lots of small towns in Nebraska which are losing population as the Omaha area grows. That is happening in Iowa, too. The metro areas are growing at the expense of the rural areas.

This is a bit of a problem for Lime Springs and Howard County, although Lime Springs has held its own and actually grown by a few people.

But that’s a whole ‘nuther story.
