Harvest Completed

About two miles west of our park there are a few cornfields along the highway. They were combined this past week. (Actually, they are just east of the “downtown” of La Joya.)

By Iowa standards, the crop looked pretty puny. Not nearly as tall and robust as ours look on a good year. On second thought, I guess they looked pretty good considering the small amount of rain they received.

They grow two crops each year down here, I’m told. The corn just harvested would have been the second crop, but the first crop would not have been corn. Maybe cotton?

I’m not sure what they grow here, other than onions and citrus fruit. More research to do!
