Bits and Pieces —An Update
I've been on a mission since returning to Iowa: I gave top priority to filing my income taxes. (I've not even gone flying yet!) Little else got done until they had been submitted. They're gone now, so I can get back to other important things.
Things like updating The Lime Springs Page. If The Page or you said that I didn't love it anymore, it would be difficult for me to mount a good defense, other than as stated above.
This multi-topic post is an attempt to catch up.
"Truck Stop" Renamed
The station by US-63 is now a Casey's! Casey's is a chain of convenience stores with headquarters in Ankeny. They have stores in about a dozen states.
This should bring long-term stability to the station, which has seen several management changes since it opened.
Housing Availability
Today's Cedar Rapids Gazette featured an article about Manchester, the county seat of Delaware County. Several industries there are growing. One of the issues: housing.
That's an issue which will or is already limiting growth in Howard County, too. There are very, very, few houses, apartments, or condos for rent. Significant growth of Featherlite, Aluma-Line, Lime Springs Beef, or anyone else will quickly make this issue "news."
Passing of Marilyn Peter Fisher
Most of you probably didn't know Marilyn Peter. I knew her because her parents moved "next door" to us and her sister, Eileen, was my classmate.
Marilyn was Kenny Peter's sister; every Lime Springer knew Kenny!
When they moved to our area, she had at least part of a year of high school remaining so chose to finish high school in Cresco. After graduation, she married Herman Miller. He grew up on the farm directly north of us, where Russell and Rosie Stevenson lived for years.
They lived in Utah, which is probably what enticed Eileen to move there shortly after we graduated from LSHS. Hermie and Marilyn had three sons. They divorced and she married Jack Fisher in 1971.
You can read Marilyn's obituary here: Aaron's Mortuary.
Our sympathy to her family and her Peter and Burnikel relatives.
Spring is Here!
?There are several signs of Spring! The picture shows Pat's bleeding heart, at about 8" tall! A few trees are in full bloom here, and tints of green herald the coming of Spring.
This week I spotted two lawn mowers in use. That isn't a sure indicator of Spring, as both lawnmowers were John Deere riding lawn mowers. From experience, I know that their owners were probably super-eager to get on them and ride them around the yard, regardless of the length of the grass.
Visiting Lime Springs
I plan to visit Cresco and Lime Springs this week, hopefully Wednesday. Perhaps I'll see some familiar faces!
