Should I Retire Again?

Should I retire again, so I’d have more time to do things? I’ve not written nearly enough articles this Winter. I feel badly about it because I know that there are several folks who actually read them. It makes me wonder if I could do better if I would retire again.

At one point early this season, I vowed that I’d post a new article every day. Well, that certainly didn’t happen.

So exactly why is there such a dearth of new articles? There are lots of reasons end even more excuses. Here’s a short list:

  • Problems with my Internet Service Provider have caused me to waste at least one month trying to solve the problem and encouraging them to do so. The company, COBA Systems, seems to have no concept of what it takes to run a company which is essentially a required utility like gas and water. Recently, it has been working fairly reliably. When it does work, it is wonderful; plenty of speed. But when it doesn’t, it is very frustrating.
  • Business interests have kept me busy. One business, selling RV Awning Travel Locks to RVers over the Internet has, unfortunately, not kept me busy. The number of orders has decreased greatly, beginning in mid to late 2015. It has picked up a bit in the last two weeks as RVers start thinking about their Spring or Summer travels.
Our AMSOIL business has kept me busy at least one day each week, and often two days. We have a few Dealers down here and several Retail Accounts. I call on them regularly and try to help them “get going” with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants for their customers.
On a more local note, I’m pleased to say that Northeast Iowa Motors in Cresco is an AMSOIL Retail Account! If you’re used to getting AMSOIL oil changes from Earl Walker, you can now get them in Cresco; Brian Bina and his crew will take care of you.
  • Laziness, I suppose. Or motivation. Or something like that which prevents me from sitting down at the computer and whipping out an article or two. It does take longer than one would think to create these articles. (I guess you could add Slowness to the list!)
  • Park activities do take time but are not a huge factor. Each Monday, we have Branson-style entertainment at our park. The cost is either $5, $6, or $7 depending on the entertainer. A few have been well worth the money, with only one or two not providing the value. Of course “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” so not everyone would agree, probably.
Friday evening is a country jam session at our park. About 50 musicians participate. For the last month, I’ve been running the sound mixing board, which I enjoy and find interesting.
Pat participates in craft classes here at the park. I don’t participate in many park things, although I have helped a few folks get their computers running properly.

Retire Again?

Sometimes I briefly consider whether or not I should retire again, that is, should I quit doing some of the things I regularly do so I’d have more time to enjoy life more.

I could quit flying, for example. As you’ve probably guessed, I’m not ready to do that. But it has crossed my mind, seriously.

The AMSOIL business has value and could be sold. In fact, one person has inquired about buying it. Ready to sell? —probably not. It’s challenging and interesting. And offers a few goals I’d like to meet.

Ceasing The Lime Springs Page? I’ve thought of that and rejected it. But I have gotten rid of at least three websites which I owned. That should show intent of working toward a more simple life. My dream of The Lime Springs Page becoming a central meeting place for Lime Springers hasn’t materialized. I’d love for it to be a “facebook” for Lime Springers. At the moment, that could be through Comments, which are available on each article. If that caught on, it could probably become more facebook-like.

More Fun

I am thinking of things which might help me have more fun in life. Any suggestions?
