Rare Event Indeed

Photo of a rare event: Keith reading a story book!

Today, April 27, 20016, at 10:35 AM, a rare event happened.

I finished reading a “story” book! What’s the big deal, you might wonder. You probably read a book every day, week, or month so finishing a book is, indeed, no big deal.

I, on the other hand, am a poor reader and read books infrequently. And I honestly can’t recall when I last read a novel. It was a long time ago, certainly. This is probably only the second book I’ve read in at least a decade. The other was a biography written by a friend of ours.

Photo of the book leading to this rare eventThe key to this rare event was a book titled “Memory Man” by David Baldacci. Pat was reading it and found it very hard to put down. She thought that I might like it, too, so I thought I’d give it a try. Sure enough, it was hard for me to put down, too!

I completed it in less than two weeks, all 500+ pages!

The title comes from the condition inflicted on the main character, Amos Decker, by a hard hit in a football game. The infliction: he remembered everything! In addition, he viewed numbers in color and sometimes viewed numbers and other things which weren’t even there.

While this condition might appear to be very advantageous to a student prepping for a test, Amos Decker did not find that to be the case. In fact, it pretty much ruined his life.

It was key in helping him solve very involved crimes, however.

The biggest question I have after reading “Memory Man” is how the writer could dream up all the details involved in this complex story.

Do not expect another rare event like this soon! A progress report on my banjo playing, yes. A reading report, no.
