We Have Guests!

It's not often that we get company down here, but this week we have friends from Lime Springs days visting our park—in fact, they're parked right next to us.

Marian Kay (Wiliams) and Bill Hall of Wausau, WI, included Rockport on their winter travels this year. And Pat and I are glad that they did!

Photo of domino players

In case you're wondering, Pat won three out of four games of dominoes, so the next night we switched games. Bill won the game of UpWords.

The Halls had been in Austin where all of Marian's siblings had gathered for a few days. Janet was there from Gainsville, Fl, and Jack from Loudon, TN. They gathered at Jane's home in Austin.

And come August, they all plan to be at Sweet Corn Days!

Dale's Back in Lime Springs

According to the great notes on http://www.caringbridge.org, Dale Kitchen arrived back home in Lime Springs last night (Friday).

Dale has just completed the first round of treatment for his cancer. He's back in LS to get his batteries recharged.

By the sound of the letters in the Guestbook section of the Caring Bridge site, there are lots and lots of folks waiting to see him and wish him well.

And that's what I'll do, to. Make the most of your stay without overdoing it, Dale.

Get well soon!

Sheryl had a Birthday!

Specifically, it is Sheryl Moldt Sloan who has spent the last several decades in Jefferson, IA. Winters are spent at Lady Lake, Florida.

Sheryl, my classmate at LSHS, has taught many, many, Jeffersonians to play the piano. She's also church organist. More interestingly, she plays the bells in the memorial tower in the heart of downtown Jefferson.

During their retirement, Lee and Sheryl have been steady contributors of ideas and labor to the Green County Historical Museum. And a fine museum it is, too!

Did you know that field tile was once made of large diameter wooden "pipes?" I didn't, until I visited the museum.

This is my way of wishing her a very Happy Birthday. You can do it, too, if you'd like. Just send her an email at: rlsmover@yahoo.com

Since I first posted this on the eve of her birthday so as to not spill the surprise, some of you might not see this for a few days, but send a message anyway! At our age, we like to hear from friends anytime!

Happy Birthday, Sheryl!

Caption Contest—and the Winner is···

Linda Williams, Bella Vista, Arkansas! (No relation.)

Linda suggested a sign reading "taccroissantchies sold here!" If you have trouble with that, sound it out: ta croissant-chies.

Makes sense to me! And who would have guessed that my stopping to take a picture of something which I found amusing would lead to reconnecting with a Lime Springs acquantance from decades ago!

A Bit of South Texas Culture

Here's a slide show of an event I attended last Saturday, March 7.

Remember, you saw it right here on The Lime Springs Page first!

A Note from Craig Williams

The Caption Contest mentioned above brought me, and therefore you, into contact with Craig Williams, Linda's husband.

Craig is the son of Emryn and Alta, active and respected members of our community for decades. He graduated from LSHS, probably in 1951. His siblings are John Alton (Brainerd) and Suzanne (Des Moines).

I'll print a good portion of his note below:

Keith,

Nice to hear from you. Linda and I moved here a little over three years ago, she has a son who is BB coach at a small college some 200 miles from here. We both enjoy being back where we can see the four seasons, more so than in Az.

Suzanne lives in apartment quite close to downtown DM···Suz's E-mail: showard@aea11.k12.ia.us She would like to hear from you Keith.

My brother John still lives in Brainerd with wife Donna ··· Their youngest son, Craig, and wife live on the same lake as your cousin and their youngest daughter and husband also have a home on this lake.

Linda and I are going out to CA. come early March to see my life long friend, Les Parry, and wife who live in Lemoore, Ca. and also have a home on the ocean at Morrow Bay. Of course Les was a member of the old Presbyterian church, now just a memory , but a very very pleasant one. Along that line I remember that your Mom was my Sunday school teacher for several years during my early years. I still belong to the Pres. church down here in BV.

Yes, we have 8 golf courses here in BV and lots of people from Ia. Mn. and Ne. On your way home from Gulf Port give us a call and if it's a fit for you and us let's do lunch and/or dinner, Tele: 479-855-3963. We enjoyed ourselves in Tx and the Lord willing will go back down there for a longer stay come 2010.

Our best to you and your wife,
Craig

New Program for The Lime Springs Page Progressing

As I've mentioned before, for years now I've had my eye and mind on using a canned but very flexible and feature-filled program to publish The Lime Springs Page.

I've tried a few, but always ran into problems because, in spite of the ads, they are not simple.

But I'm tenacious. And the programs themselves have become even more capable and, at the same time, a bit easier ot use. Plus there are some books out to help explain them now.

Anyway, I have one operating at a secret location now and it looks very, very, promising. But it's not going to be revealed in the next few days. Little by little, I'm coming to understand what I need to do to make it perform as I'd like.

It still doesn't look like The Lime Springs Page; that challenge is still ahead.

Do you have artistic or graphic talent looking for an outlet? I would welcome some volunteer help!

The new site will have what appears to me to be unlimited capabilities. It will be easier for me to publish articles. But most importantly, it will be easy for YOU to publish articles, letters, comments, whatever.

I'd like to see more articles by other Lime Springers and fewer by me!

Start polishing up your pen, or these days, computer! Nothing wrong with getting a few articles started now!

Oh yes, I have one surprise already in place! It'll be revealed when the new site comes online.
