What Zup?

Young Eagles

What a great weekend! The weather was great and so were the activities. I’ve not posted for a few days, so I’ll just quickly let you know what zup and how we enjoyed the weekend.

Saturday, our EAA chapter had a Young Eagles event at the Cedar Rapids airport. At those events, we give kids ages 8-17 FREE airplane rides! Saturday, we had eight airplanes and gave 97 kids rides, many of them their first airplane ride ever!

The program was started in 1993 at the national level. At the recent EAA convention in Oshkosh, Harrison Ford gave the two-millionth youngster a ride!

About four(?) years ago, we had a Young Eagles event in Cresco. I think we’re about due for another one there! I sure wish there had been such a program available when I was a kid!

I’m not one of the pilots at these events. My usual job is that of “dispatcher.” I assign riders to specific planes/pilots and keeping a record of it. We have a pretty efficient system but when there are about 100 kids and about that many parents, things can get a bit hectic.

At the end of the day, however, the results are always the same: A good time was had by all!

Chinese Lunch

Yesterday, we joined friends from Pat’s church for lunch at Ting’s Red Lantern. The meal was good and the company was good. It’s hard to beat that combination.

Cars Washed

Today I washed the truck. I know how neat Jim (Smith) is and I didn’t want to show up at his place with a dirty truck! Now it looks like it might be raining Thursday as we drive to Lime Springs for Sweet Corn Days. Oh well, I tried so should get at least partial credit!

It was so much fun washing the truck that I washed Pat’s car, too.

Yes, both in the same day!

Gym

I even went to the gym today. Then finished the day by going out to dinner with about a dozen others from our neighborhood. That’s an every-other Monday evening event and always a lot of fun.

I didn’t mention it, but yes, I did get my nap in, too!
