Two whose early home was Lime Springs passed away this week: Jim Ellison and Margie (Ihns) Snyder.

James “Jim” Ellison

Jim Ellison, 78, of Pine City, MN, passed away this week. His burial will be 11 AM Monday, Oct. 3, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.

Jim and his siblings grew up on a farm NW of Lime Springs. He graduated with the Lime Springs High School class of 1957. Because of his professional life as a minister, he was asked to give the invocation at the Lime Springs High School reunion in 2004.

As you can read in his obituary, he served many churches in Iowa and Minnesota as a pastor.

Margie (Ihns) Snyder

Margie (Ihns) Snyder passed away Monday in Harmony. Her funeral will be Monday, Oct. 3, at Sumner Center United Methodist Church, Racine, MN. (This is actually straight north of Spring Valley but the road north out of Spring Valley is closed. The easiest route for those coming from the south is probably through Racine, then east.)

Margie’s obituary is here: http://www.griffin-gray.com/obitua (You might have to scroll down to see it.)

She grew up on the family farm SW of Lime Springs. Her parents were Walter and Emma (Austin) Ihns.

Margie was the oldest of the 19 Austin first cousins, the common ancestor being our grandfather, Ole Austin, who lived just SW of Saetersdal Church. Of the 19, Margie is the sixth to pass away. Also deceased are her sister and brother, Gloria Jefferson and Wallace Ihns, and her first cousins Delbert Hoopman, Clarence “Butch” Austin, and Meredeth “Tootie” (Austin) Foster.

If memory serves me correctly, the first wedding I attended was that of Margie and Ivan, at the Lutheran Church in Lime Springs.

As the obituary points out, she was a “doer!” That red hair was appropriate, for she was a ball of fire!
